Fun With Science

This class will be held during the Winter Semester only.

Fun with Science is an exciting and interesting hand-on approach to understanding the what, why, and how of some basic concepts in chemistry and physics.

The first 20 minutes or so of class will get you up to speed on the fundamentals, vocabulary, concepts, and knowledge you need to know right at first.

The rest of the class will be filled with hands-on learning opportunities. Build an actual motor, dissect an actual motor, release a (tethered) hot air balloon, manipulate light and make a solar oven and a periscope, make a lava lamp, whip up some sorbet, and (depending on availability of supplies) build your own smoke bomb! When you are done with this class, you will not only have had “fun with science,” you will also understand the whys and hows that make all these things are possible.

Each week we will post various enrichment activities, YouTube videos, related website links, and other useful, fun, and interesting information related to each class on the class blog. We HIGHLY encourage the students to deepen their understanding of the concepts we discuss/discover and try some of the optional labs on their own at home. It will be worth their time!
