Strategy Games: Shogi, Chess, Go!

Description: Learn to think logically and strategically, using the medium of strategy games, such as chess, go, shogi, and others we will learn. This is a great way to exercise and build your brain power, and that will help you in math, test-taking, philosophy, politics, and many other areas of life.
Each student will study with the book “Winning Chess” by Chernev and Reinfeld, which is a great classic for teaching how to recognize useful patterns and think strategically. We will also learn how to apply these techniques to other games, other areas of knowledge, and when they are appropriate to use in real life.

Homework: It’s not work; it’s fun! 1-2 hours/week, if you are disciplined enough to limit yourself. Exercises in “Winning Chess” book. Challenge someone to play outside of class.
