Foundations: Step into America's Roots

Step into the past and discover the stories that shaped our nation! In Foundations, you’ll journey through American history from the 1650s to 1800, starting with the dramatic events of the French & Indian War and the vibrant world of Colonial America. You’ll dive deep into the creation of our government, read the Constitution, rewrite the Constitution in your own words, and explore the challenges and debates faced by the Founding Fathers—while discovering how their decisions still impact our lives today.

This interactive class is designed for ages 12–14. You’ll:

Take part in hands-on activities and engaging games that bring history to life.

Go on exciting field trips, including a visit to our state capitol.

Meet both famous and lesser-known figures who made a difference.

Examine our nation’s triumphs, mistakes, and the lessons learned along the way.

Explore history from multiple perspectives, encouraging you to think critically about the past.

Give a presentation in class each semester.

Memorize the Preamble to the Constitution, the steps to how a bill becomes a law, the 13 colonies and, if desired, the Declaration of Independence.

Whether you’re passionate about history or just getting started, Foundations will help you understand America’s story—and your place in it. Get ready to ask questions, make discoveries, and see history in a whole new way!

Rewriting the Constitution is stretching, especially at the beginning. It is highly suggested that a parent is able to help the student with the constitution rewrite each week, especially at the beginning. So consider a parent's availability to help when choosing if Foundations is a good fit for your family. There are several books available to help with the rewrite (look at them during the registration fair park day!) Parents can choose whichever book you feel is best for the student. Or you can use online sites if you prefer that.
