Exploring Engineering

Calling all problem solvers, builders, and big thinkers! In Exploring Engineering we will do
exciting, hands-on challenges each week and you will dive into the world of engineering by building, experimenting, and solving real-world problems and simulations. You’ll take on projects inspired by structural, civil, mechanical, hydraulic, and even acoustic engineering. Along the way, you’ll uncover the fundamental laws of physics—exploring forces, motion, and energy through interactive projects that make complex ideas click. We'll step briefly into the world of modern engineering with 3D modeling using Tinkercad, and bring your ideas to life through 3D printing and prototype creation. This class requires a can-do attitude, acceptance that you might fail and need to try again (and again if needed), and willingness to work in groups and respect the ideas and thoughts of others.

Materials Required

Pencil and notebook are needed each week.

Towards the end of the year a laptop with access to Tinkercad will be very useful but not required in class as they will be working in groups. Access to Tinkercad at home will be useful in second semester.

Some projects may require some 3D printing, but we will give students who do not have one at home a chance to print in class.

Homework

1-2 Hours of homework which may included educational videos related to what we will be learning in class, project write ups/analysis, and group presentations.
