In this hands-on craftsmanship class, students will develop practical skills while learning to safely and confidently use a variety of tools. Throughout the course, we will explore foundational techniques in several crafts, including leatherwork, basic sewing, knot tying, rock wrapping, and wood carving.

During the first 6–8 weeks, students will learn essential skills and complete guided projects as a class. These projects are designed to build confidence, creativity, and an understanding of proper tool use and safety.

In the final 4–6 weeks, students will apply what they’ve learned by selecting and completing an individual project of their choice. This allows them to explore their interests more deeply while practicing problem-solving, planning, and craftsmanship.

Most of the supplies for the class projects will be provided. Class fees will also cover some tools that students will be able to keep and take home with them so they can work on projects at home if they want to. There will be some supplies that students will purchase at the beginning of Spring Semester, and then students will bring or purchase additional materials for their individual projects, once they decide what project they want to do. It may be possible to use UFA or OpenEd funding for these additional supplies.
