Chemistry

In Chemistry we will be learning about Chemistry through hands on labs as well as study. This class will provide you a literacy in chemistry and the exploration of the scientific method through chemistry. Students will investigate the nature of the atom, infer physical and chemical properties based on chemical bonding and periodic tendencies, investigate chemical reactions, stoichiometry, molecules and chemical bonding, gas laws, liquids, solids, solutions, acids and bases. We will also have a lot of fun.

Class Schedule
Prerequisites
It is expected that students in this class will have taken Algebra or Secondary Math 1 before taking this class. If you are concurrently enrolled in above classes you can reach out to me and see if this class will be a good fit.
Materials Required
None
Homework
Homework will consist of:
- Reading before class from a Conceptual Chemistry book to be introduced to the topics we will be studying.
- Practice of concepts taught in class (approximately half will be conceptual and half will be mathematical in nature)
- Some review problems will be included to help retain information through out the year and beyond.
- Creating lab write-ups from our hands on activities in class.
I will aim for homework to take a student who reads and works quickly approximately two hours, knowing that it may take students up to five hours to complete the homework.
Notes
Basic math skills are all that are necessary for this class.
