Explorations

Have you ever looked at nature and the world around you and wondered, “Why are things the way they are?” Explorations is all about exploring methods of discovering truth using science, philosophy, logic, and scripture to help us find answers to our questions.

We’ll connect math and science to the world around us and learn to see patterns so we understand the relevance and reason to study it. Learning about great thinkers of the past will introduce us to great ideas. Students will practice strengthening their ability to think logically and have opportunities to measure things they encounter in the world against their core book (which may be scriptures or any other book that the student and his or her family uses as a foundation of truth.)

We will focus on scientific inquiry and do activities that relate to each step of the scientific method. Dig deeper about what fascinates you and share your curiosity and excitement in class as we discuss ideas and questions. At the end of the semester students will present a science project that they have completed using each of these steps. In addition to required reading, students will get to choose from a list of inspiring books and movies to complete each semester.
