World Traveler

You shouldn’t take this class. It’s the worst class at ASA. Who cares about other places? Geography is dumb. So many map quizzes, and the cool prizes don’t make up for it. You’ll have to read a lot of books about weird people and watch too many movies. You don’t even get to write any papers! You’ll be expected to dance and do tai chi and awkward stuff like that in front of everyone. You’ll have to do presentations. The teachers will bring all sorts of bizarre food and probably make you eat a bug. They will force you to do crafts. People who are from places you’ve never heard of will come talk to you and you’ll have to go on field trips against your will. You could end up winning a machete, which is sharp and terrifying. Think it through. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!

Homework

Since we will have a broad range of ages in our class, we have created two separate homework tracks for our students. Each student will choose one track at the beginning of the year (with flexibility to switch later.) The High School track will be more academic with higher expectations and more challenging reading/viewing.

  • Middle School Track : 2-3 hours/wk
  • High School Track: 3-5 hours/wk

Homework for this class will be fun! Lots of fun books from around the world, movies, documentaries, etc. Students will be researching and giving presentations. Those who complete the homework assigned for their track and the Globetrotter Challenge will win an awesome award at the end of the year.

  • Middle School Track: 7 books, several online video rentals
  • High School Track: 8 books, several online video rentals
